Obituary

GROVELAND: Mary-Louise (Green) Wilkie, 94, died on Thursday, November 5, 2015 in The Brentwood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Danvers after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late George P. Wilkie.
Born in Lynn on October 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Herbert W. and Elizabeth (Travers) Green. Mrs. Wilkie graduated with honors from Merrimack College, North Andover and studied for her master’s degree at Salem State College. She attended Franklin Institute and Vesper George School of Art both in Boston. She was an engineering draftsman at the General Electric Company in Lynn for 23 years and an electrical engineering draftsman for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, M.D.C. Parks Division, Boston.
Mrs. Wilkie was co-founder of the Merrimack Valley Herb Society, a member of the Southern Vermont Art Association, the National Farm and Garden Club, Cambridge, N.Y.; Groveland Historical Society; the Haverhill Whittier Club; Friends of the Haverhill Library; Friends of the Groveland Library; Advisory Board member for Life Long Learning, Northern Essex Community College; a member of the Groveland Arts Cultural Council; Haverhill Arts and Crafts; Third Order of St. Francis; the Andover Library Book Group, and the Groveland Library Book Group; Haverhill Garden Club; honor recipient of Red Cross Volunteers and Lion’s Club Volunteers; Friends of the Groveland Council on Aging and Merrimack Council on Aging. She studied classical music with Mdm. Melba McCreery, Boston; studied water colors with Beverly Mitchell of West Newbury and Marcia Nadeau-Tanner, and instructed Tai Chi classes for seniors at Northern Essex Community College. She was a member of the Massachusetts State Engineers Association.
She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Travers Green and by her cousin, Daniel O. Travers. She is survived by Daniel’s wife, Betty Travers of Middleton; her cousin, Rev. David O. Travers, S.J., of Weston; cousins, David O. Travers and his wife Carol, of Lynn; Dennis R. Travers and his wife, MaryAnn of Hopkinton, N.H.; Brian J. Travers and his wife Kerry, of Barrington, R.I.; Edith Amenta and her husband, Michael, of Lynn; Elizabeth Earp and her husband, Jonathan of Lakewood Ranch, FL; and their families, and her step-daughter, Dianne E. Wilkie of Bonita, California.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in St. Patrick’s Church, 114 Center St., Groveland at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem St., Bradford from 9 – 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
