Obituary

BELCHERTOWN – Reverend Earl A. Hebert, 92, a longtime resident of Pine Valley Plantation in Belchertown, was Called Safely Home on Monday, the Feast Day of All Souls, November 2, 2015 after serving the Diocese of Springfield as a Priest for over 62 years. He passed into Eternal Life at the Little Sisters of the Poor Saint Joseph’s Residence in Enfield, Connecticut surrounded by his loving caregivers. He was born in Holyoke on June 26, 1923, a beloved son of the late Albert H. and Marie Alice (Caron) Hebert. He was raised in Holyoke where he attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School and Morgan Junior High School, both in Holyoke. He graduated from Holyoke High School and then began his formal studies at Sacred Heart Seminary in Saint Victor de Beauce, Province of Quebec, Canada. He then attended the Seminary of Philosophy in Montreal, Canada and later graduated from the Grand Seminary in Montreal, Canada. He completed his post graduate studies at Westfield University where he received a Master’s Degree in Education. On December 20, 1952, he was Ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Springfield at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke by Bishop Christopher J. Weldon, D.D. He Celebrated his First Mass on Christmas Day, December 25, 1952 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke. He served as Parochial Vicar at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee, Notre Dame Church in Adams, Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield, Saint Aloysius Church in Indian Orchard, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ware and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke. In 1974, Father Hebert was named Administrator and, in 1975, was named Pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ware where he served for several years before being named Pastor of Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield in 1990. He retired from active ministry in 2003 and assisted at many local parishes in Ludlow, Palmer, Belchertown and Ware. He was predeceased by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Una (Hebert) Haynes and her husband, Burnett Quincy Haynes. Father Hebert leaves his cousin, Jeannine Remillard of Feeding Hills; several cousins in Canada; his brother priests and his many friends. Father Hebert will Lie in State on Monday morning, November 9, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. Pontifical Liturgy of Christian Burial which will be celebrated by Bishop Emeritus Timothy A. McDonnell at Christ the King Church, 41 Warsaw Avenue, Ludlow, MA 01056. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow the Pontifical Liturgy at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
