Obituary





Armand R. Genest, a CPA for 43 years, died on November 1, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

A native and lifelong resident of Manchester, he was born on April 22, 1934, the son of the late Armand J. and Aurea (Lambert) Genest.

He is a graduate of St. Anthony High School and later graduated from New Hampshire College in 1976.

While in High School, he lettered in track, baseball and football. He was co-captain of the football team in 1953, was named to the All-State squad, and was known as “the little cyclone from St. Anthony High”.

Prior to his retirement in 2008 he owned his own accounting practice for 21 years.

Mr. Genest worked as a staff accountant for James A. Shanahan & Co. and Charles F. Rittenhouse & Co. before going to work for the State of New Hampshire.

While working for the State of New Hampshire, he held many positions including Business Manager for the Division of Public Health Services, Director of Audits for the Division of Welfare, Business Supervisor and Internal Auditor for the Department of Administrative Services, and Director of Municipal Services for the Department of Revenue.

Mr. Genest belonged to the New Hampshire Society of CPAs, serving as President for many years. He also served as Chairman of the Professional Ethics Committee for multiple terms. He was also a lifetime member of the Naval Reserve Association.

Mr. Genest was in the Naval Reserve for 34 years retiring with the rank of Commander in 1986. He was proud to re-enlist his son David into the Navy Seabees for three tours of duty.

He recently took pleasure in weekly golf and bowling outings with his son Dan. He and his wife have done some extensive travel over the years and enjoyed many winters in Port Charlotte, FL after his retirement.

The family includes his wife of 60 years, Pauline R. (LeBrun) Genest of Manchester, two sons, Daniel Genest and his wife Kathleen of Kingston, NH; David Genest and girlfriend Debbie Pearl of Hooksett, NH; two daughters, Susan Phaneuf and her husband Richard; Diane Montplaisir and her husband Robert; and a brother Donald L. Genest, all of Manchester, NH.

His five grandchildren include Nicole Genest of Merrimack, NH; Jamie Zellermayer and her husband Clayton of Huber City, UT; Jason Montplaisir of San Francisco, CA and his husband Michael Carrier of Londonderry, NH; Eric Montplaisir and his wife Kristen of Boston, MA, and Kristen Labore of Manchester, NH.

He also had five great grandchildren, Jacob Genest of Merrimack, NH; Makenna Genest-Horne and Isabella Genest-Horne of Pelham, NH; Brynlee Zellermayer of Huber City, UT, and Kayden Labore of Manchester, NH.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at J. N. Boufford & Sons 110 Bridge St.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 12:30 PM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Belmont St.

Entombment and military honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice Division of the Visiting Nurse Association, 1070 Holt Avenue, Manchester, NH 03109, to which the family owes much gratitude for the wonderful care they provided.
