Neil Fairfield Damon passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at home in Acushnet, MA. He was born on July 7, 1927 in Williamsburg, Massachusetts to Charles Murray Damon Sr. and Eva Wells Damon.
He was the beloved husband of Donna Hobbs Damon. In addition to his wife of nearly 70 years, he leaves a daughter, Linda Gurney and her husband Brad, of Acushnet, MA, a son John and his wife Annastatia, of Westerly, RI, and a son Neil and his wife Janet of Providence, RI, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Marsh of Chatham, MA and Joan Coughlin of Trumbull, CT. He was predeceased by six siblings, Phyllis Campbell, Margery Thoms, Charles, Alan, Glen, and Philip Damon.
Neil served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Northeastern University. In 1977, he retired as vice president of engineering from Augat, Inc. in Attleboro, MA. An inventor of electronic components, he held several patents.
He and his family lived in Cumberland, RI for many years. For more than 30 years, they enjoyed their home in Goshen, MA until moving to Grantham, NH and recently to Acushnet, MA. He and his wife spent winters in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
Neil was an avid golfer, tennis player, baseball player, and sports fan. He was a member and Past Master of the Lafayette Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Cumberland. His friends and family considered him the ultimate host. He took great pride in maintaining his properties. He always attacked new projects with great joy, gusto, and expertise.
