Obituary

Whitman – John W. Sanborn 88 of Whitman, died Thursday October 29, 2015 after a brief illness.

Born in Brockton and raised in Whitman he was the son of the late John P. and Bertha (Descary) Sanborn and a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1947.

He was a proud veteran of World War II serving as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class in the US Navy from 1944-1946.

Prior to his retirement, John was employed as a railroad postal worker for the US Post Office, and after his retirement he had worked as a security officer. He had also owned and operated a kennel in which he raised German Shepherd dogs.

His life revolved around family, bowling, cribbage, watching New England sports teams, and dog and horse racing especially the Kentucky Derby.

He is survived by his children: devoted daughter Debra Meagher of Whitman, John Sanborn of Georgia and William Sanborn and his wife Karla of Brockton, his former wife Beryl Singleton of Whitman and his four grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as many nephew and nieces. He was predeceased by his brothers Francis, Edward, Robert and Paul and his grandson Erik Sanborn.
