Maurice A. "Moe” Gagnon, 83, of Woonsocket died Sunday morning at Landmark Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Muriel (Cote) Gagnon. They were married on May 3, 1952.
Born and raised in Albion he was a son of the late Joseph and Angela (Lusignan) Gagnon. Moe and Muriel raised their family in Albion before moving to Woonsocket where he had resided for the past 40 years.
Moe was employed in the local textile industry at Berkshire-Hathaway in Albion, Silk Processing Co. in Woonsocket and worked for more than 20 years at Worcester Textile in North Providence before retiring.
Moe was an avid New England sports fan always rooting for the Red Sox and the Patriots no matter what their predicament. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. What he cherished most was especially the many great times he shared with his kids and grandkids. Moe’s favorite pastime however was bowling, he can lay claim to many great strings but most of all he relished the fun and camaraderie it provided. Bowling was an activity he participated in throughout his life. He was also a prodigious coin collector.
In addition to his wife of 63 years Moe is survived by a daughter Paulette Young and her husband, Gregory, of North Smithfield and a son Leo R. Gagnon of Warwick. He was the brother of Raymond Gagnon of Albion and the late Roland, Edward, Joseph, Claude “Tiny”, and Laure “Molly” Gagnon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher Young, Holly Hollingworth, Charlie, Kevin, Jeffery and Laura Gagnon, 3 great-grandchildren Eli, Kathryn, and Chloe and two great-grandchildren who will make their debut soon and many nieces and nephews and their families.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday Oct.31 at 10:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association RI Chapter 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI. 02906.
