Obituary

CHICOPEE – David A. “Dave” Labonte, 67, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, October 23, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts after being stricken ill at the Normandy Farms Campground in Foxboro surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on July 12, 1948, a beloved son of the late Norman L. Labonte and Therese F. (Vaillette) Labonte. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke Catholic High School and lived in Holyoke for many years before moving to the Willimansett section of Chicopee. In 1971, he moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was last employed as a recycler for the City of Chicopee Department of Public Works and retired in 2009. He previously worked at Smith & Wesson in Springfield. Active in his Catholic faith, Dave was a daily communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. He served his parish for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and also volunteered for many years at their weekly bingo games. He was a member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus in Chicopee where he volunteered each year for their Thanksgiving Day Dinner. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Bishop Joseph F. Maguire Assembly 2670 in Chicopee. During his younger years, Dave and his wife, Simone, were active members of AJAC in Aldenville. Most of all, Dave was a man who loved his family and his many friends and was always ready to help anyone in need. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Simone A. (Houle) Labonte. They were married on April 20, 1968 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 47 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving sons, David A. Labonte, Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Ludlow and Christopher G. Labonte and his wife, Lori, of Palmer; his three cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Joshua W. Labonte, Avery M. Labonte and Andrew D. Labonte; his four loving sisters, Diane B. St. Jean and her husband, Skip, Laetitia D. Labonte and Elizabeth A. Wheeler and her husband, Ward, all of Chicopee and Tracy M. Labonte of Bronx, NY; his loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Houle family, Roger Houle and his wife, Elaine, Claire Delaney, Mary Chagnon and her husband, Edgar, Richard Houle and his wife, Lynn, and Marion Roberts and her husband, Gary, all of Chicopee; his loving sister-in-law, Marge Houle of Spring Hill, FL; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Labonte and Houle families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his two loving brothers, Norman Michael Labonte and Paul E. Labonte; his two loving sisters-in-law and their husbands of the Houle family, Doris Rivet and her husband, George, and Theresa H. Perreault and her husband, Gerald; and his loving brother-in-law, Norman Houle who was Called Home on April 12, 2015. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
