C. Edwin "Ed" Hale, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, October 23, 2015, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, October 26, 2015, at Central United Methodist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Mike Benson officiating. Mr. Hale’s son-in-law, Bill McGee, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Hale was born March 18, 1937, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Loney E. & Sarah Lee Young Hale. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School and earned his Associates degree from Young Harris College. Following his study at Lagrange College, Mr. Hale earned his Bachelors degree, his Masters degree, and later his Specialist degree in education, all from Georgia Southern with a major in Social Studies. Mr. Hale moved to Fitzgerald in 1960 to begin his teaching career. A longtime educator, he taught for almost 40 years at Fitzgerald High School in the History department. He was chosen to be STAR Teacher and also coached the Debate team for many years. He also taught at Monitor High School. Mr. Hale loved to read and will be remembered as an amazing husband and dad. An active member of Central United Methodist Church, he taught the couples & singles Sunday school class and served as chairman of the Preschool Committee for several years. He also served on the Administrative Council and the Pastor-Parish Relations committee.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, LuEllen Hale of Fitzgerald; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennsey & Bill McGee of Richmond Hill; and a granddaughter, Mallory McGee of Richmond Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-sister, Betty Foley.
