?James Patrick Howe,
Longtime Santa Barbara businessman and Oxnard resident James Patrick
Howe, 74, died October 22,2015 after a long battle with cancer.
Born July 13 ,1941 in Los Angeles, to Walter and Elizabeth Howe, he had lived in Santa Barbara from 1975 to 2010, and was active in real estate and mortgage lending, and as a manager for Koonce Family Enterprises, from 1986 until moving to Oxnard in 2010.
Mr. Howe taught elementary school in Blythe, Santa Barbara and Visalia from 1970 to 1975, and held a bachelor's degree from the University of San Francisco
and a teaching credential from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He attended St. Benedict's Catholic elementary school in Montebello, Holy Redeemer College in Oakland, St. Clement's College in DeSoto, Mo., and Immaculate Conception College in Oconomoc, Graduated from USF in San Francisco.
Mr. Howe was an avid yachtsman, sailing with his wife Lucinda Hill Howe on their cutter Katherine in California coastal waters between Santa Catalina Island and San Francisco
The two also made extensive auto trips to national parks throughout the western states.
He was a volunteer with Recording for the Blind and Easy Lift in Santa Barbara,and Food Share and Habitat for Humanity in Ventura.
An easygoing and tolerant man, Mr. Howe was a favorite of his siblings, and nieces and nephews. He kept his wide­spread family informed of one another's activities and traveled often to see them. He loved reading and discussing books and movies, and could always be roped into a games of cards.
In addition to his wife Lucinda, Mr. Howe is survived by a son, Kevin Patrick Howe of Santa Barbara; a stepson, William Yarbrough of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers Luke Howe of Houston, Tex., and Kevin Howe of Pacific Grove; two sisters, Mary Margaret Carricino and Elizabeth Teresa Howe, both of Santa Barbara, and many nieces and nephews.
His wishes are to be cremated The family prefers that contributions in his memory be made to Habitat to Humanity.
Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street Ventura.
