Gauthier, Geraldine Florence “Gerrie” of Wayland, died peacefully surrounded by her dedicated caregivers on Saturday October 8, 2015 at the age of 84. Born and raised in Haverhill, Gerrie was the daughter of Henri M. and Marie Bertha Gauthier. She was a renowned cellular biologist. She received her BS degree in 1954 and her MS degree in 1955 from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. In 1956 she was awarded an AM degree by Radcliffe College. Gerrie then earned a PhD in cellular biology from Harvard Medical School. She went on to teach at Harvard Medical School as well as Wellesley College where she spent the bulk of her career. She then went on to the University of Massachusetts Medical School where she finished her career as a professor emeritus. Gerrie was an avid reader and loved anything to do with science. She also loved to cook and write poetry. And she was dedicated to her series of pet schnauzers; Jasper, was her most recent. A graveside service will be held on Friday October 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Lakeview Cemetery, Commonwealth Road (Rte 30), Wayland. Memorial donations can be made to two charities dear to Gerrie’s heart, Rosie’s Place in Boston or The Catholic Worker in New York City.
