Theresa M. ‘Teri’ Avila, a longtime resident of Provincetown and Orleans, Massachusetts, passed away on Monday October 19, 2015, in Margate, Florida. She moved from Cape Cod earlier this year and had recently celebrated her 88th birthday.
Teri was born on August 29, 1927, in Waltham, MA, and moved to Provincetown, where she married the late Arthur Avila, Sr., a World War II veteran, and a noted contractor. They raised their three children in Provincetown.
Teri worked in a number of retail shops in Provincetown, and particularly enjoyed meeting returning tourists and celebrities who frequented Provincetown in the summers of the 1970’s and 1980’s. While Arthur Sr. was training his son Art Jr. in the construction trade, Teri managed the year-round rental units that she and Arthur Sr. built on their property at what was then the end of Bangs Street in Provincetown.
After Arthur Sr.’s passing in 1991 Teri moved from Provincetown to Bayberry Village in Orleans, MA, where she lived her retirement years near her oldest daughter, Patty. She wintered in the home of her youngest daughter Carol Asper and her husband Rick in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Teri also traveled extensively with her daughter Carol to such places as Hawaii, San Francisco, Southern California, and Mexico, many times in the small aircraft owned by Carol and her husband Rick Asper.
She is survived by her son Arthur Avila Jr., and daughter-in-law Debbie, both of Cohasset, MA; daughter Patricia Suggs and son-in-law Jay Suggs, both of Dennis, MA, and daughter Carol Asper and son-in-law Rick Asper of Fort Lauderdale, FL. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Jennifer Anthony, along with Jennifer’s husband, Brad Gallagher, Evan Phillips, Brittany Avila, Bryce Avila & Brenley Avila; as well as five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date, and internment will be in Provincetown Cemetery, joining her beloved husband Arthur Avila Sr. in eternity.
