Denis M. O’Keeffe, age 64, of Norton passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the beloved husband of Janet M. (Clifford) O’Keeffe, to whom he was wed for the past 43 years.
Born in Boston, MA on July 25, 1951, he was a loving son of the late Denis and Katherine (Concannon) O’Keeffe.
Denis grew up and was educated in Roslindale. He was a 1972 graduate of Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
Prior to retiring, Mr. O’Keeffe had worked for 30 years for Boston Emergency Medical Services. He worked his way up to the rank of Lieutenant and retired in 2010. Following retirement, he continued helping others as a CPR Instructor for the American Heart Association.
Denis had made his home in Norton for the past 29 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton.
His affiliations included being a member of the Lieutenant Harold A. Healy American Legion Post 222 in Norton, the Massachusetts Retirees Association, the NRA, the Gun Owners Action League of Massachusetts, the Wrentham Sportsman’s Association, and being a loyal supporter and member of the Republican Party.
Denis loved spending time with and friends, especially with his adoring granddaughter. He also enjoyed freshwater fishing with his friend Carl Bois in Maine, and making new friends as a member of the Foxboro Daily Winners.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted daughter Mollie L. O’Keeffe of Norton and his cherished granddaughter Isabelle. He was the dear brother of Mary J. Hershberg and her husband Paul of South Hamilton and Anne Fish and her husband Larry of Highland Park, Illinois. He was the loving nephew of Sister Mary Josephina Concannon , CSJ. He was the dear son-in-law of Patricia A. Clifford of Norton, was the brother-in-law of Elizabeth Nagle and her husband John of Florida, and is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews, his dear friend Brad Anderson and loving cat Emma.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 27th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Boston.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 26th from 4:00-9:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations in Denis’s memory be made to the Boston EMS Relief Fund, P.O. Box 200668, Charlestown, MA 02129.
