Obituary

Norman D. Gillespie, 83, of Anderson, died at his home on October 19, 2015 following an extended illness.

He was born on July 5, 1932 in Anderson, the son of Earl and Alma (Carpenter) Gillespie. He was employed at Delco Remy as a utility man, retiring in 1988. He also farmed in the Anderson and Moonsville area. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, and had received a Bronze Star, UN Service Metal and a National Defense Medal for his service. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge , the Elks Lodge, American Legion, and the Izaak Walton League of America. He was a blacksmith and had horses. He enjoyed caring for his great granddaughter, Milah Broadwater.


Survivors include his wife, Norma Whitinger Gillespie, whom he married Dec. 31, 1973; a daughter, Pam (Rick) Simpson, 2 step daughters, Lori Broadwater and Rhonda (Jerry) Hodson, a brother, Wayne (Sarah) Gillespie, and 10 grandchildren; Loren (Kelli) Broadwater, Johnna Broadwater, Cindy (Doug) Hieatt, Karen (Eric) Sexton, Joshua (Allison) McPhearson, Daniel (Kimra) Hartman, Ricky Simpson, Rhiannon (Mark) Freeman, Adriann (Mike) Hofner, Stephanie Kessler. Several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, a son, Douglas Earl Gillespie and a step son, Gary Murdock.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Candy Hull for her loving care.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 12 Noon, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service officiated by Pastor Dennis Zirkle. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery with Military graveside rites. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
