…beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother; 83
TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Eleanor M. (Cantalupa) Deveau, age 83, a resident of the town for the past five decades, died peacefully at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill on Sunday evening, October 18, surrounded by her beloved family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife for 53 years of Alphee J. Deveau, who died in 2012.
She was born in Somerville, in October 1931, a daughter of the late Anthony and Angelina (Langone) Cantalupa, and was raised in Somerville. She graduated from Somerville High School, and continued to live in Somerville until moving to Tewksbury in 1970. Mrs. Deveau was a communicant of St. William’s Church, and will be remembered for her devotion to her family.
She is survived by four children, Judi Tompkins and her husband Bob of Pittsford, VT, Stephen Deveau and his wife Donna (Gendron) of Lowell, Denise Cameron and her husband Kevin of Claremont, NH, and Dianne Deveau of Tewksbury, with whom she resided; eight grandchildren, Kristen Deveau of Woburn, Thomas Deveau of Boston, Justin Deveau of Chelmsford, Kenn Tompkins and Collin Tompkins both of ME, Kasey Cameron, Ryan Cameron, and Anne Marie Cameron all of NH; three great grandchildren, Charley, Vaughn, and Taya Ellie; her sisters, Rita (Cantalupa) Ducharme and her husband Leo of Tewksbury, Barbara (Cantalupa) Lonergan and her husband Edward of Nahant, Theresa (Cantalupa) O’Keefe of Medford, Mary Nutting and her husband William of AZ, and Anne Cantalupa of Arlington; her brothers, Anthony Cantalupa and his wife Kathleen of Somerville, and Joseph Cantalupa and his wife Lois of N. Reading; a sister-in-law, Leonie Ward of Somerville; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brothers-in-law Robert Ward, Donald O’Keefe, and Royden Deveau.
Visiting hours Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main St. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Thursday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Thursday, Oct 22, at 10:00 a.m. in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
