Obituary

: Charles H. Metcalf, 74, of Mystic, passed into eternal life on Thursday, May 26, surrounded by his family. Charles served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict as an expert marksman. He was a master carpenter and built and remodeled many fine homes in Southeastern Connecticut, retiring in 1990.

Charles was a sports enthusiast and a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. He was a direct descendant of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. He had a passion for reading and a thirst for knowledge. His children teased him about being the “king of useless trivia.”

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Surviving him are his children, Katherine M. Davis and her husband Charles of North Stonington, Thomas W. and his wife Catherine of North Stonington, James A. Metcalf, and Coy Chojnowsky, both of Mystic, his sister Doris Ann Cabral and her husband Ron of Montville, his former wife and best friend Marie Metcalf of Mystic, his daughter-in-law Dolores Davidsson of Virginia and his grandchildren, Christopher A. Metcalf, Kathleen Johnson and her husband Michael, Ian Davis and his wife Desarae, James Davis, Kendall Metcalf, Michele Walworth and husband Doug, and Robert Faiella and his wife Alison. He also leaves his great-grandchildren, Aiden Latino-Davis and Chancellor Walworth and his aunt Marge Payne. Charles was predeceased by his uncle, Albert M. Payne, by his parents, Nellie and Vincent Honowsky and Charles Metcalf Sr., and by his beloved son, Charles H. Metcalf III.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:00am at St. Thomas More Church, Mystic Road, North Stonington. Burial will be private. There are no visiting hours. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden CT 06450.
