William (Bill) Andrews of East Bridgewater passed away on October 14, 2015 after a courageous 4 ½ year battle with melanoma. Bill was the loving husband of Irene (Chetwynd) for over 50 years.
Loving father of Stephen (wife Diana) of Maryland, Nancy Pelton (husband Ray) of New Hampshire, and Kerry Thompson (husband Brad) of Nevada. Adored Grampy of David, Katie, Chris, Jackie, Courtney, Wendy and Naomi. Son of the late Frank and Helen Andrews, brother of the late Patricia Lee.
A 1957 graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, he served in the US Navy for 4 years, stationed at Barber’s Point, Hawaii.
He was employed at Polaroid for 31 years and at Home Depot for the past 13 years.
Bill spent 35 years as a volunteer assistant coach for the EBHS track teams, 2 years chairing the EB Music Parents’ Association, 7 years as a volunteer EB fire fighter, in addition to enjoying the last 5 years as a member of the EB Kiwanis Club.
He was a life-long avid fan of all sports.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. David McDermott and the entire Beth Israel team for their dedication to Bill and his care. Bill had gotten so much comfort and support during the past 4 years by attending support meetings for melanoma patients.
His services will be held Monday October 19 at 9:00 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. John Church, East Bridgewater. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Sunday October 18 from 3:00-6:00 PM
In lieu of flowers, Bill requested that donations be made to the Melanoma Foundation of New England (melanomafoundationne.org) or to the Cancer Support Community of the South Shore (cancersupportcommunityma.org).
