Obituary

Richard Rogers, age 90 passed away on October 13, 2015. Born on August 5th, 1925. Graduated from Edward Searles High School in Methuen Mass. His high school yearbook noted that he was “the star” of the baseball team. He fought in WW2 in France and Germany and was taken as a prisoner of war. He was one those 18 year old kids who landed on the beach in France who saved the free world. He was held prisoner in Dresden, Germany and was present during the horrific Allied bombing of the city. He truly viewed every day as a gift thereafter and always appreciated being able to get on with normal family and professional life.

Upon his return he entered and graduated from the University of Maine’s Pulp and Paper Technology School with a master of science degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. In 1950 he married Virginia O’Rourke. He spent his entire career with the Ris Paper Company and eventually became President of Ris New England. He was the president of the Boston Paper Trade Association and president of the New England Paper Merchants Association. During his career, he resided with his wife Virginia and two sons in Reading, MA.

He retired with his wife to Wolfeboro, NH on Lake Winnepesauke where he enjoyed many cheerful years playing golf with his children and grandchildren at Kingswood Country Club. He is survived by his wife Virginia of 65 years who resides in Wolfeboro. His son Christopher and daughter in law Anne Marie reside in Shrewsbury, MA along with their sons Samuel and Jacob. His son Michael and daughter in law Anita reside in Acton MA. Their sons Tom, Clayton, and Max live in Charlotte, NC, New York City, and Boston respectively.

Friends and guests are invited to call on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 9:00 AM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home. Per the family’s request, interment will take place at a later date.
