Obituary

Bertha A. (Fournier) Laplante, 90, of Manchester died October 11, 2015 after a brief illness with her loving family by her side. Bertha had a happy disposition, got along well with everyone and was a source of strength to her extended family.
Bertha was born and raised in Manchester, NH and was one of twelve children. She truly was a child of the Depression as she went to work after her 8th grade graduation to help support the family. In 1941, she started work at Arms Textile where she met the love of her life. Bertha dated Bob for several months before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. Upon his return from the service they married at Sacred Heart Church in May of 1946. Bertha worked in the textile mill until 1967 when she went to work for Scovill Mfg, which later became Summit Mfg. She retired from Summit in 1986. Bob and Bertha were inseparable.
Bertha loved to cook, was an excellent candle pin bowler, enjoyed dancing with her favorite partner, and was an active parishioner at St. Marie Church. After retirement, they had an active social life, volunteering to work at bingo and serving bereavement meals at their church for many years. In her later years, she loved playing cards with friends, watching movies with happy endings, playing bingo, and meeting with her Panera breakfast buddies.
Bertha was the daughter of the late Albert and Eugenie (Pelletier) Fournier. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Henry, Leo, Jeannette, Oscar, Yvonne, Emile Cecile, Robert, Roger and Raymond.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Robert; her son, John and wife Judy of Portland, ME; her daughter, Susan Roberts and husband James of Vallejo, CA; her son, Denis and wife Cathy of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ; her sister, Theresa Doherty of Manchester; sisters-in-law, Rose, Marie, Ruth, and Claire (Laplante) Pinard and husband Roger. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: James and wife Heidi, Andrea and husband Shawn, Melissa Laplante and husband Nick, Aaron Lepage, Ian and wife Dillon Roberts, Russell, Gregory and wife Lacy, Jacquelyn, and Kenneth Laplante; five great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Charlotte, Levi, Chloe, and Emmeline; an extended family of nephews, nieces and close friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, October 17, 2015 in St. Marie Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall St, Manchester, NH 03101.
