Obituary

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Evelyn Hardin Griffin, 96, beloved wife of the late James Franklin Griffin, Sr., entered into rest on Sunday, October 11, 2015.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Dr. Kevin Steele officiating. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Griffin was a longtime member of National Hills Baptist Church where she served on the Bereavement Committee, and the Flower and Tape Ministry for Shut-Ins. She was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class, and the Senior Citizens Group. She retired in 1983 from the Richmond County Board of Education. Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Retired Secretaries Club of Richmond County. She was a graduate of Washington-Wilkes High School, and Hearst Business College.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by her children, James Franklin Griffin, Jr. (Gena), and Barbara Sundholm (Jack); her grandchildren, James Franklin Griffin, III, and Virginia Griffin Simpson (Matthew); her great-grandchildren, Annalise and Archer Simpson; and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents, Pleasant C. and Nettie Dunaway Hardin; and by her siblings, Jack, Preston, Harold, and Margaret Hardin.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hardin, Tim Hardin, James Franklin Griffin, III, Matthew Simpson, and Gene Brady Meads, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Ladies One Sunday School Class, and the National Hills Baptist Church Bereavement Committee.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 10:00 AM until service time.
