Obituary

Velma Alneta Davis Fletcher Kimbrell, 77, of Fitzgerald, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015, at Dorminey Medical Center in Fitzgerald. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Liberty Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Steve Tucker officiating. Mrs. Kimbrell will be laid to rest at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 14, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Kimbrell will be placed in the church an hour prior to the service.

Wesley Kimbrell, David Kimbrell, Joel Kimbrell, Zack Padgett, Troy Davis and Corie Lloyd will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cleo McAllister Sunday school class at Liberty Baptist Church in Tifton will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Kimbrell was born August 19, 1938 in Berrien County, but lived in Tifton most of her life. She moved to Fitzgerald with her second husband, Jack Kimbrell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie Glen Davis and Velma Gladys Hall Davis. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Brown Fletcher, and her brother, Oscar Wayne Davis. Velma had no children. She married Jack Kimbrell after her first husband's death. She had two stepchildren by this marriage.

Velma attended Chula Elementary School and Tift County High School, where she was a star basketball player. She worked in banking all of her life. She worked for C&S Bank, Farmers Bank and then was branch manager for First Community Bank in Tifton, where she retired.

Velma was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and loved her God and her family. She was devoted to her family and took care of her mother for years after her dad passed. She was an avid reader and enjoyed making quilts and gardening.

In addition to her husband, Jack Kimbrell, she is survived by a brother, Jimmy Lynn Davis; a sister, Juanita Davis Lloyd Sigman; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends. We will all miss her. She was a very special person.
