Obituary

Lucille D. Markot, 79, of 40 Crescent Street died at home on Friday, November 09, 2001. The daughter of Cleophas and Rose (Truchon) Blais was born in Laconia on October 3, 1922.

While still a student at Laconia High School, she met her future husband, Walter P. Markot, with whom she was sharing her sixtieth year of marriage.

Lucille was a talented dancer and prize speaker; she used the latter skill when moderating style shows at many area fine-clothing stores. In the 1960s she owned her own store, ToT ‘n’ Teen, in partnership with Ann Morin of Laconia and the late Dorothy Perley of Lakeport.

In her professional capacity, she coordinated presidential primary dinners throughout New Hampshire and supervised wait staff in several local fine-dining establishments.

She was active in politics for decades, campaigning and working for Senator Thomas J. McIntyre and serving as a ballot inspector in Ward 2. She was passionate about her charitable work and counseled single parents in Laconia in the 1980s. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America for 50 years and also assisted the Ladies Guild for many years. She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.

Her greatest joy, however, was making people happy, which she did in countless ways her entire life.

Family members in addition to her husband include two sons, W. Brian Markot of Gilford and Bruce A. Markot of Middletown, CT; a daughter, Janet R. Guyer of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a sister, E Jacqueline Blais of Springfield, OH; grandsons Captain Peter B. Markot of Colorado Springs, CO, Stephen B. Markot of Nashua, Timothy B. Markot of Hudson, and Matthew L. Markot of Middletown; granddaughters Paulina D. Melechkina of Oneonta, NY, Eliziveta D. Meleshkina of Gilford; five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and god-children.
