Obituary

Rev. Edward C. Duty, 94, passed away on October 11, 2015 after an extended illness.

He was born in Logan County, West Virginia on September 29, 1921. He has resided in Anderson for 24 years.

Rev. Duty served in the Army Air Corp as a Sergeant in the 47th Fighter Squadron, 15th Fighter Group of the 7th Army Air Force. During WWII, he was stationed in Hawaii and then went on to serve on Iwo Jima. While on Iwo Jima, he witnessed the raising of the flag on Mt. Serabachi, the building of the first airstrip, and he also witnessed the first B-29 which landed on Iwo Jima for refueling. Sgt. Duty served by servicing the propellers of the P-51 Mustangs.

After WWII, Rev. Duty felt the call to the ministry and came to Anderson, Indiana to attend what was then Anderson College. There he met and married Frances Louise Bundy and went on to graduate from Anderson College in 1951. He then attended Temple Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. Rev. Duty was a Church of God pastor in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Florida. He retired from the pastoral ministry after serving 50 years in ministry. He worked as a greeter at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service for several years after his retirement.

Survivors include his son, Michael and wife Cara, of Tipp City, Ohio, his daughter, Joyce Duty Wehneman of Anderson, granddaughter, Alyssa Miracle and husband Mark, of Murfreesboro, TN, grandson, Graham Duty and his wife Emily of Troy, Ohio, and great grandchildren Norah and Luke Miracle of Murfreesboro, TN and Laila Duty of Troy, Ohio, all of whom he loved immensely. He is also survived by a host of very special nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and New Jersey who he also loved so very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Luther Hall and his precious wife, Frances Louise Bundy Duty.

The family would like to thank the congregations of Park Place Church of God in Anderson, Union Missionary Baptist Church in Muncie, and Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Xenia, Ohio for their unending prayers throughout Rev. Duty's illness. In addition, the family would like to thank the wonderful staff, nurses, and aides at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield, Indiana for their tender and loving care of their father, grandfather, and GG. You were angels to him and we will forever carry you in our hearts.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
