Obituary

CHICOPEE – Roger D. Turgeon, 60, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, October 8, 2015 after a valiant battle with Melanoma. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and several close friends. He was born in Holyoke on October 9, 1954, a beloved son of the late Roger N.Turgeon who was Called Home on September 17, 2009 and Celia (Boczon) Turgeon who was Called Home on June 4, 2007. He was raised in Holyoke and South Hadley and graduated from South Hadley High School in 1972. In 1978, he moved to Chicopee where he lived for the remainder of his life. Roger was employed for 20 years as a Sales Manager for Devine & Devine Food Brokers in Norwell, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus and a member of the Bishop Joseph F. Maguire Assembly 2670. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of the Westfield Sportsmen’s Club. Most of all, he was a wonderful man who adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his beloved wife, soul mate and sidekick, Judy (Grilli) Turgeon. They were married on April 8, 1978 at Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 37 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving daughter, Christina M. Turgeon of Chicopee; his loving son, best friend and fishing partner, Matthew R. Turgeon of Chicopee; his two dear brothers-in-law, Tony Grilli and his wife, Phyllis, of Springfield and Michael Grilli and his wife, Michelle, of Southwick; his dear sister-in-law, Sue Cupero and her husband, Louie, of Springfield; his dear mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jean and Larry Baclawski of Chicopee; his cherished uncle and aunts, Joe and Dottie Turgeon, Cecile Hooper and Gisele Bernier; his cherished nephews and nieces who affectionately called him “Ohno”, Justine, Nick, Dominic, Jenna, Jake and Morgan; and his many cherished cousins, friends and extended members of the Turgeon and Grilli families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving brother, David M. Turgeon who was Called Home on September 15, 1995; and his dear father-in-law, Rocky Grilli who was Called Home on April 10, 1988. His funeral will be held on Thursday morning, October 15, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private at a later date at the convenience of his family at Sainte Rose Cemetery in Chicopee. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for Melanoma Research, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215-5450.
