Martha Burnette Nichols, 62, of the Irwinville community, died Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.
Memorial services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
Mrs. Nichols was born September 13, 1953, in Tampa, Florida, to the late Jesse James & Vonedeal Taylor McCarty. She was a seamstress and worked at Morehead’s Country Store. Known affectionately as “The Gator Lady”, Mrs. Nichols was an avid Florida Gator fan. She loved to watch movies, listen to music, and attend yard sales. She was a member of Eastside Holiness Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Donnie & Maxine Burnette of Fitzgerald, Jason & Diane Burnette of Crawfordville, Florida, David & Melinda Burnette of Valdosta, and Jennifer Burnette & Luke Tucker of Fitzgerald; six grandchildren; siblings and their spouses: Rudy & Martha McCarty of Lakeland, Florida, her twin sister Mary Hough & Dave of Fitzgerald, Harold & Karen McCarty of Fitzgerald, and Missy Sanchez of Irwinville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Caro.
