Obituary

Clifton Arthur, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, May 27, 2005 at Crossview Baptist Church, with Rev. Greg Carroll & Rev. Tom Braziel officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9, Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Arthur was born March 4, 1931, in Haleyville, Alabama, to the late Rev. John Sherman and Nancy Elizabeth Coan Arthur. He lived in the community most of his life and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Arthur was former Custodian at Arbor Baptist Church for thirty-eight years, a former school bus driver, former police and motorcycle officer, former employee of Colony Builders, Harper Motor Lines, Fitzgerald Water, Light and Bond and former owner/operator of Big John’s Farm & Home Supply. He was a former member and deacon of Arbor Baptist Church for over fifty years, a member and deacon of Crossview Baptist Church and a member of the Esther Sunday School Class. Mr. Arthur was a member of The Gideons International.


Mr. Arthur is survived by his wife: Betty Mays Arthur of Fitzgerald; daughter: Denise Leigh A. Jordan of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Jacob A. Jordan, James C. Jordan, Jodie Lee Jordan and John Stephen Jordan; seven great-grandchildren; brother: Matthew Arthur of Warner Robins and a sister: Etta A. Taylor of Fitzgerald. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
