Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Benjamin Teal, Jr., M.D., age 92, of Maryville, Tennessee, formerly of Gainesville, passed away on May 19, 2014. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Graveside memorial services will be held 2 PM, Friday, October 9, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald.

Chuck was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, the only child of Charles B. Teal Sr. and Eunice Daniel Teal, who predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Arline J. Teal; two daughters, Linda Teal Willoughby and husband Kent Willoughby of Maryville, Tennessee and Janice Teal and husband Dennis Ling of Naples, Florida. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sheri Willoughby Eklund and husband Fredrik, and his step-children, Matthew Ling, James Ling, and Kathryn Ling; and his precious great-granddaughter, Eleanor T. Eklund.

Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served on the Manhattan Project at the University of Rochester. He graduated with honors from the University of Georgia and received his M.D. degree from Syracuse University College of Medicine and a Master’s of Public Health from the University of North Carolina; He practiced medicine as a family practitioner for 15 years and served for 19 years as district medical director of Public health, overseeing 13 counties in Northeast Georgia.
