Obituary

Robert M. “Bob” Ferrante age 64 of Plympton died Saturday October 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Martina J. (Turowski) Ferrante for 39 years. Bob was born in Winthrop and raised in East Bridgewater a son of the late Anthony and Nina (Nobilio) Ferrante and had lived in Plympton for the past 22 years.
Bob was a 1969 graduate of East Bridgewater High School where he was class president and president of the National Honor Society. He earned his bachelor’s degree in music magna cum laude from Boston University and master’s degree in education summa cum laude from Fitchburg State University. Bob enjoyed a lengthy and accomplished career in music as both an educator and performer.
In 2010, Bob retired from the Brockton School System after 22 years as a teacher and band leader. He loved hearing of the many successes of his former students both in their musical or professional lives. As a performer, Bob was the drummer for Dale and the Duds and principal French horn with the Brockton Symphony, United Brass Quintet and South Shore Concert Band. He also played with the Cosmo Legion Band and Marion town band. During an interruption in his teaching career, Bob had worked for several years with Automotive Associates in Marshfield, MA.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed cars, computer and electronics, coin collecting and cooking. Most importantly, Bob will be remembered as a man who loved people, was an inspirational and hard worker with strong ethics and was extremely witty and charismatic. Before his death he said “ I’ve had a wonderful life with a beautiful wife and wonderful son. I was blessed with a life that was filled with music…playing the best classical music on my French horn, playing classic rock and roll on my drums, having an occupation that filled me with joy, having a strong faith in God, and inspiring many, many people in their lives”.
In addition to his wife Martina, Bob leaves his loving son Marc A. Ferrante . He was the bother of Joseph F. Ferrante of Weymouth and the late James A. Ferrante. He also leaves many Turowski in-laws and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte. 123) Brockton on Friday 2-4 & 7-9 pm and on Sunday 2-5 pm. His Memorial Service will be held Monday at 10:00 am at the Mayflower Congregational Church 207 Main St., Kingston. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would rather a donation be made in Bob’s name to : The Robert Ferrante Memorial Scholarship Fund through any Rockland Trust Bank branch and/or to the Cure Pancreatic Cancer Lustgarten Foundation at www.lustgarten.org.
