Obituary

WORCESTER: Dorothy T. (Osadchak) McCarthy, 84, of 130 Beverly Rd., a retired Worcester Police Officer, died Monday, May 23, 2005, in her home, after a brief illness. Her husband of 59 years, Charles J. McCarthy, Sr., died December 11, 2003.
She leaves her son, Michael J. McCarthy of Worcester; her daughter, Kathleen M. McCarthy of Mashpee, MA; her daughter-in-law, Valerie A. McCarthy of Sterling; her grandson, Charles J. McCarthy, III, of Houston, TX; her granddaughter, Bridget M. Hyotte of Nashua, NH; and her twin great grandchildren, Aidan and Fiona Hyotte, also of Nashua. Her son, Charles J. McCarthy, Jr. and her sister Olga Majeski, both predeceased her.
She was born in Mahonoy City, PA, daughter of the late Matthew and Catherine (Simbalko) Osadchak. She was a class of 1938 graduate of Mahonoy Township High School and later earned a degree in law enforcement at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester. She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.
Dorothy was a Worcester Police officer for 26 years, until retiring in 1986. She previously worked 10 years for the City of Worcester in the City Messenger Department where she rose to the position of Principle Clerk. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, a member of the church choir, was elected to serve on the parish council, and was President of the Church Women's Club. She also served as chairperson of the Worcester Diocesan International Relations Committee, and had been a volunteer worker at St. Bernard's Church Social for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #0444, the Massachusetts Police Association, the Worcester County Retired Police & Firefighters Association, the Worcester Police Relief Association, the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts, and the Mahonoy Area Historical Society in Mahonoy City, PA.
A CALLING HOUR will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26 in OUR LADY OF FATIMA CHURCH, 43 Belmont St., immediately followed by A FUNERAL MASS at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in St. John's Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests donations in memory of Dorothy be made to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 7 Auburn St., Worcester, MA 01605. KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
