NATICK: Philip A. “Phil” Untersee, 81, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Natick following a period of declining health on September 28, 2015.

Phil spent his formative years in Brookline and was a graduate of Brookline High School. He and Mary have been residents of Natick for over 49 years. He received his BS in Chemistry and his Masters in Industrial Management from MIT. He had a long and distinguished career in the scientific and technical consulting field. He began his career as a writer at Chemical Week magazine, followed by many years as an editor with Arthur D. Little in Cambridge and retired as the Chief Financial Officer for Decision Resources, Inc. of Burlington.
Phil was an active communicant of Saint Zepherin’s Parish for many years and served on the finance committee and as a Eucharistic Minister. Along with his wife Mary, they provided endless hours of preparation for couples participating in Marriage Encounter. He volunteered with the Natick Senior Center assisting those who needed transportation to doctors’ appointments, particularly in Boston, and did so with a generous heart. In 2011 he was also named Natick Senior Man of the Year. He was an avid stamp collector and volunteered at the library at the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History in Weston. Phil was a devoted Red Sox fan.
His greatest accomplishment was the love he had for his family, which was the center of his life. He and Mary always enjoyed their summer vacations with the children and grandchildren in York Beach, Maine. Phil will be fondly remembered for his commitment to his family and friends and those who needed a helping hand.
