Mickey Thomas Ellington, 76, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, October 2, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Joel Shirley and the Rev. Charlie Solomon officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Ellington was born April 5, 1939, in Terrell County, Georgia, to the late Hartwell Rusk & Eunice Jenkins Ellington. He was a 1959 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and served his country honorably in the Georgia National Guard. He worked for 32 years for General Telephone. Mr. Ellington loved to fish and enjoyed family get-togethers, whether they were frying fish or putting up vegetables. He was a creative mind who enjoyed working with his hands. Mr. Ellington instilled a strong work ethic in his boys and never allowed them to quit anything they started. He saw honor in working hard. He was a member of the Ocilla Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Mamie Ruth Ellington of Fitzgerald; four sons and daughters-in-law: Mickey T. “Tommy” Ellington, Jr. & Tammy, Timothy Hartwell Ellington & Patricia, Tony Newton Ellington & Sharon, all of Fitzgerald and Toby Scott Ellington & Janis of Richmond Hill; seven grandchildren: Brittni & Blake Deal, Kayla & Todd Bromlow, Kimberly & Wade Chaney, Tony N. “Rooster” Ellington, Jr. & Jennifer, Amie Ellington, Brooke & Billy Geeslin, and Blair & Ben Floyd; nine great-grandchildren: Abbie Ellington, Ahlivia Markham, Mason Geeslin, Brady Bromlow, Anna Markham, Kaleb Helms, Bailey Deal, Madison Chaney, and Tyson Ellington; two brothers: Gerald & Judy Ellington of McRae and David “Skippy” & Rosemary Ellington of Alpharetta; and one sister, Rozannah Bryant of Fitzgerald.
