Stephen A. Tavares, 74, of New Bedford died Friday September 25, 2015 after a prolonged illness. He was the husband of Dolores M. (Lopes) Tavares.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Alfredo and Dominga (Pina) Tavares, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Tavares was formerly employed by Winfield Luggage Company, and later worked for Headstart in New Bedford.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Eleanor Watts and Steven Cruz; his siblings, Alfred, Kenneth, Daniel, Antonio, David, Maurice, Geraldine "Jaye", Margaret, and Linda Tavares, Carolyn DaLomba, and Caroline Silva; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Eugene Tavares and Rosemary Johnson.
