Obituary

Peter G. Asiaf, Jr., a life-long resident of Brockton, MA, passed away peacefully Friday, September 25, 2015 at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted and beloved husband for nearly 50 years of Mary Ann (Smith) Asiaf.
He was the son of the late Massachusetts State Representative Peter G. Asiaf, Sr. (known as the “Father of Massasoit Community College”) and Mary T. (Rugus) Asiaf. He is a United States Army veteran with service in Korea. He began his career as a business owner of the popular Cricket Club in Brockton, after which he worked as an Administrator for the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles for over 30 years, where he retired as Director. Like his father, Peter had a long political career, serving as a Councilor-at-Large for the City of Brockton for 26 years (1980-2005) and as a Plymouth County Commissioner for eight years (1998-2005). He also served as the President of the Plymouth County Correctional Facility and as a member of the Board of Trustees for Massasoit Community College, the Plymouth County Advisory Board, the Plymouth County Democratic League, the Brockton Democratic City Committee, and the Board of Commissioners of the Brockton Housing Authority. He is a past President of the Lebanese American National Club, where he was a life-long member, and a former member of the Brockton Elks Club, D.W. Field Park Association and Brockton Historical Society.
He was an avid football fan and former football player at Brockton High School and Tufts College. He also enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, traveling, and his Harley Davidson for a number of years. Above all, he adored his family and grandchildren, who called him “Gidoo.”
In addition to his wife Mary Ann, he leaves their three children, son Peter G. Asiaf, III, and his wife Sharon of South Boston, daughter Atty. Lisa Asiaf Schlatz and her husband John of Bridgewater, and son Matthew James Asiaf of South Boston. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Abigail, Peter IV, Travis, Laci, Drew and Luke, and three siblings, sister Patricia Lake of Hyannis, sister Joan Colandrea and her husband Paul of Wareham, and brother David Asiaf and his wife, Kathy, of Bridgewater, along with sister-in-law Mary Asiaf of Wareham. He was also the brother of the late Dian Asiaf formerly of Wareham and Bruce Asiaf formerly of Carver and brother-in-law of the late Howard Lake of Hyannis.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St (Rte 123) Brockton on Tuesday, 3-8pm closing with an Incense service at 7:30pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30am for a Service of the Divine Liturgy at 10:30am in St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church, 343 N. Main St, Brockton.
