TORRES –Hilda (Camara), of Assonet, MA, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Somerset Ridge Nursing Home, Somerset, MA, after a short illness. Born in Fall River on November 23rd 1919. She was married for 52 years to the late Joseph Bento Torres.
She and her husband were the owners of Torres Service Station, North Main St., Fall River, MA for many years. Hilda was the daughter of the late Mathias Camara Sr. and the late Maria A. Camara. She was the beloved mother of Arthur J. (wife Shirley), of Middletown, RI, and Robert J. (wife Debra), of Portsmouth, RI. She was the much loved grand-mother of 7 grand-children; Melissa, Trisha, Beth and her husband Arthur, Kristen; Robert Jr., Kelsey, and Kyle. She also leaves her precious new great grand-daughter, Lorelai Elizabeth. For the last ten years her constant companion was her Jack Russell Terrier “Colby”. She was the sister of the late Mathias, the late Jerome, Natalie, Lawrence, Louis, and Louise (Camara) Slauterbeck. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Hilda spent much of her time making her home more beautiful with amazing flower gardens. She was a seamstress for many years prior to moving to Assonet. She made everyone feel welcome in her home and the love of her family is testament to that.
Hilda leaves a legacy of love that will remain with all who knew her and will carry everyone through the difficult days, weeks, and months ahead. She has given us memories to keep with us always and she will be so very much missed.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River, MA on Monday, Sep. 28th at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernard’s Church, Main St. Assonet at 10:00 A.M. Interment in the Assonet Burial Grounds. Calling hours on Sunday 4-8 P.M.
