Obituary

CHICOPEE – Carl E. Goodrow, 68, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, September 21, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the comfort and care of his loving family. He was born in Ludlow on June 15, 1947, a beloved son of the late Ovela W. and Pauline M. (Grenier) Goodrow. He was raised in Ludlow and moved to Chicopee Falls in 1970. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Commendation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed at the former Parmeter Auto Parts in Springfield and had later worked as a groundskeeper for 20 years at the Mass Mutual Company in Springfield. He last worked as a small engine and auto engine repairman at General Saw and Lawnmower in East Springfield. He was a communicant of the former Saint Patrick Church in Chicopee Falls. He was a former member of the Tigers Athletic Club in Chicopee Falls and a member of the American Legion Post 420 in East Springfield. Most of all, he was a wonderful provider to his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Maureen E. (Shea) Goodrow. They were married on October 31, 1970 at Saint Patrick Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 44 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he also leaves his two loving children, Michelle E. Benson and her wife, Ashley Benson, and Michael E. Goodrow, all of Chicopee; his two cherished granddaughters, Danielle Rose Stasiowski and Emily Conley, both of Chicopee; his dear sister, Sandra Hanson of Ludlow; his two dear brothers, Ronald Goodrow and his wife, Sue, of Indian Land, SC and William Goodrow of Westfield; his dear sister-in-law of the Shea family, Patricia Cavanaugh and Frank Borgatti of Westfield; his two dear brothers-in-law of the Shea family, Daniel J. Shea, Jr. and his wife, Bernice, and Thomas F. Shea and his wife, Charlene, all of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Goodrow and Shea families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel J. Shea, Sr. who was Called Home on April 8, 1979 and Rita R. (Peloquin) Shea who was Called Home on January 4, 2006. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday morning, September 25, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (the funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.). His Burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Prayer Service at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
