Thelma Cleghorn Huggins, 81, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, September 20, 2015, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Steve Hand and the Rev. Steve Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Huggins was born April 20, 1934, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Joseph & Pearl Nasworthy Cleghorn. She was a former seamstress for The Monarch Company and managed both the Little Pantry and the Merrimac Restaurant. Mrs. Huggins also worked for 10 years as secretary to Sheriff Thurman Ellis. She loved working in her flowers and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. An active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Mrs. Huggins taught Sunday school as well as Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, and worked with the WMU.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Milton Huggins of Fitzgerald; children and their spouses: Bob & Tammy Huggins and Patrick Huggins, all of Fitzgerald, and Jan & Darrell Dixon of Blackshear; grandchildren and their spouses: Laura & Kent Burgess, Emily & Jason Burrell, William Dixon, Chris Dixon, Lakelyn Huggins, and Wyatt Huggins as well as five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.
