Obituary

Dr. Harold W. “Ben” Tate, Jr. D.D.S. age 84 of Canton passed away after a brief illness September 18th at the Beth Israel Hospital. Born in Norwood, he was raised in Canton and graduated from Harvard College and New York University College of Dentistry in 1961. He served 4 years in the United States Navy as a Dental Technician, stationed at the Naval Air Stations in El Centro and San Diego, CA; Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA and Guam Naval Dental Clinic. He was in practice for 39 years in Sharon and Canton and was a member of the South Shore Dental Society, Mass Dental Society and the American Dental Association. He was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ in Canton where he was the organist since 1983 and a member of the Board of Trustees and various other committees. Dr. Tate also served as a Director at the Canton Co-operative Bank. Beloved husband of Marcia (Lambrecht). Father of John A. Tate and his wife Letiana of Canton and Matthew J. Tate of West Virginia. Grandfather of Mia “My Darling” Tate of Canton. Son of the late Dr. Harold W. and Ethel (Johnson) Tate. Brother of Barbara Tate Cash of Canton and the late George Tate. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Wednesday 4-8 pm. Funeral service at the United Church of Christ, Canton Thursday morning at 10. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the United Church of Christ 1541 Washington St. Canton, MA 02021.
