Portugal – Joaquim Azinheira, age 85, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015 in Casal de Além, Santarém, Portugal. He was the loving husband of the late Diamantina (Louro) and the son of the late Maria (Loura) and Jeronimo Azinheira.
Mr. Azinheira was born in Casal de Além, Santarém, Portugal. While living in this country, Joaquim worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing until his retirement.
He is survived 2 children: Belmira Barreiros and her husband, Fernando, and Ilidio (Lee) Azinheira and his wife, Christina, all of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren: John Barreiros, Kevin Barreiros, David Azinheira and Sabrina Azinheira; 3 great grandchildren: Lillie, Travis and Jake; 2 sisters: Delfina Azinheira and Celeste Azinheira, both of Portugal; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Azinheira was predeceased by several other siblings.
Mr. Azinheira’s funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 8:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church in Padanaram at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, MA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
