Obituary

Whitman – Donald E. Hannigan 92, a lifelong resident of Whitman, died Tuesday September 15 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Maureen (Maher) Hannigan.

Born and raised in Whitman, he was the son of the late John and Rose (Arseneau) Hannigan.

Earlier in his career Don had worked for the former Whitman Shoe Machinery and the Fore River Ship Yard. Prior to his retirement he had worked as an oil burner technician for the local fuel companies, and was a proud member of the Local Teamsters’ Union.

He was truly “Mister Fix It” spending countless hours in his work shop with the talent to build or repair just about anything. In his younger years he had built model airplanes and could be seen flying them in the Whitman Park.

He was a member of the Holbrook Sportsmen’s Club and had enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with his family at Sandy Neck on the Cape.

He is survived by his daughter Linda Hannigan of Pembroke and close friend and neighbor David Andrade of Whitman as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Donald Hannigan and his siblings Louis, Kenneth and John Hannigan and Alvis Murphy.

His services will be held Tuesday September 22 at 12:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
