NEW BEDFORD — Ruth F. (Bernard) Russell, born on October 6, 1924 on Nantucket Island, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 peacefully at St. Lukes Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Charles (Buddy) Russell. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Clara (Ellis) Bernard.
She was beloved by her family and all that knew her. She enjoyed sitting outside on her back deck, sports, and trips to Foxwoods with her best friends of many years, Toni and Irene. She enjoyed time spent with her family's pets and endless amounts of kisses from the puppies Maya and Snowy.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Carol Vaughan, Jane Tripp, and her husband Leon; and Gail Russell. She leaves behind her 6 grandchildren, Wesley S. Vaughan Jr. and his wife Paula; Paul J. Vaughan and his wife Donna; Tammy J. Isherwood and her husband Lyle; Jody L. DeLuca; Raymond L. Tripp; and Robyn L. Shwedo and her husband Daniel. She was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Edith Nardone and grandmother of the late Charles A. Vaughan.
Her visitation will take place on Thursday, Sept. 17th, 4-7pm at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County Street, New Bedford.
