Phyllis (Kennedy) McNamara, formerly of Manomet and Cedarville, died peacefully at her home in Mashpee on Sept. 11, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of Frederick Charles McNamara. Born in Quincy, MA on September 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Margaret (Manning) Kennedy. She was educated and a graduate of Boston State Teacher’s College as well as Lesley College, where she received her master’s degree in education. Phyllis had worked for the Town of Plymouth School Department as an Elementary Teacher. She was instrumental in establishing the “Panther’s Cub House”, nursery school at Plymouth South High School where she worked until retiring in 2003. Children were her lifelong focus as she helped countless people in need throughout the years. She was affectionately known to many as “Mrs. M”. Prior to working for Plymouth School Department Phyllis was the owner /operator of Manomet Academy where Phyllis touched the hearts and minds of all her beloved students . Besides leaving her husband of 52 years, Phyllis was the loving mother of Paula Deal and her husband Jay of Sandwich, Rheta Kaski of Sandwich, William McNamara and his wife Kirsten of Mashpee, Charles McNamara and his wife Kirsten of Marshfield, John McNamara and his wife Sasha of Sandwich, Jeanne Adelman and her husband Jeremy, and Lori McCartin and her husband John all of Sandwich. She was the cherished grandmother of 19. Visiting hours will be held in the Davis Funeral & Cremation Home, 619 State Rd., Manomet (Plymouth) on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will take place on Tuesday at 11:15 a.m from the Davis Funeral & Cremation Home followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Bonaventure’s Church, State Rd., Manomet at 12 :00 p .m. Cremation took place at Vine Hills Crematory, Plymouth. Private burial will take place at a later date.
