Elsie (Gibeau) Gomes, 81, of New Bedford died Sunday September 6, 2015 peacefully at The Oaks Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Enos A. Gomes.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Louis and Margaret (Rose) Gibeau, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Gomes had been the proprietor of Elsie's Macramé Shop.
Her family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Home Instead Senior Care, The Oaks Nursing Home, and Beacon Hospice for the loving care given to Elsie.
Survivors include four children, Khalid Ali of New Bedford, Karen Camire and her husband Peter of Acushnet, Glenda Alves and her husband Roger of Freetown, and Susan Gomes of Quincy; her siblings, Arthur Gibeau, Walter Gibau, Irene Daniels, and June Gomes, all of New Bedford; her sisters-in-law, Lucy Gibau of New Bedford, Joaquina Gomes of Fairhaven, Elsie Baptista of Florida, and Juanita Perry of Onset; seven grandchildren, Tamika Jenkins, Shaneen Gomes, Lamar Gomes, Derek Gomes, Brandon Gomes, Javelle Stephens, and Andrew Camire; three great-grandchildren, Breanna and Krista Jenkins and Ivory Gomes; her special friends, Laura, Mae, Louise, Carol, and Debbie; and many nieces and nephews. Adam, you held special place in Auntie Elsie's heart.
She was the sister of the late Rose Gonsalves and Donald Gibeau and the grandmother of the late Nathan Gomes.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday September 14, 2015 at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday September 13, 2015 from 3-6 PM.
