TEWKSBURY - Peter P. Itrato, age 79, a modest and reluctant celebrity in Cambridge’s Harvard Square, died Monday, September 7, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Caroselli) Itrato, who preceded him in death in February 2008.
He was born in Boston, in May 1936, a son of the late Sylvester and Connie (D’Arrigo) Itrato, and raised in Boston’s West End. He lived in Watertown and Randolph before moving to Tewksbury. Peter had been in residence at Bayberry at Emerald Court for the past two years.
He worked as a newspaper and magazine seller at the Out Of Town News in Harvard Square, Cambridge, for over forty years. He was once featured in a front-page article with photos about his day to day life in Harvard Square in the Boston Globe newspaper in 1982.
He was step-father of Sandra and her husband John O’Grady and their son Michael Joseph of Dracut, and Kenneth Secca of Dublin, CA; father of Nancy McInerney, and Allison Picciano and her husband Roberto all of Medford; Julie Moss of Billerica; brother of Joseph Itrato of Medford; and also leaves many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Visiting hours Friday, Sept. 11, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Saturday at 9:30 in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Oblate Father’s Home, 486 Chandler St. Tewksbury. Burial in Tewksbury Cemetery.
