Fitzgerald, Maurice J., DMD
Of Sudbury, died on Monday, Sept. 7, age 86. Lived and practiced dentistry in Sudbury for more than 50 years. Husband of the beloved and late Winifred C. Fitzgerald, his wife of 51 years. Survived by five sons and a daughter: Maurice J. “Mark” Fitzgerald of North Andover, David E. Fitzgerald of Sudbury, John W. “Jay” Fitzgerald of Sudbury, Robert F. Fitzgerald of Cambridge, Winifred M. Fitzgerald of Madagascar, Daniel W. Fitzgerald, MD, of New York. Also survived by 12 grandchildren – Maurice, Ailish, Fiona, Max, Sven, Sigrid, Joe, Rosy, George, Nell, Daniel and William Fitzgerald – and beloved sisters-in–law, daughters-in-laws, son-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the only child of the late Maurice J. Fitzgerald and Margaret Triggs Fitzgerald of New Haven, Conn. Graduate of Fordham University and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. A US Air Force captain and later a reservist, Dr. Fitzgerald began his dental practice in Sudbury in the late 1950s, handing over the reins of the practice last decade to his daughter-in-law, Dr. Mia Fitzgerald. He was involved with numerous Sudbury institutions and groups over the decades, including Our Lady of Fatima Church, the Sudbury Historical Commission, the Sudbury Minutemen & Militia (one of the early founders/colonels of the reenactment group), Sudbury Pop Warner (coach and a co-founder), Sudbury Democratic Town Committee, and other groups.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Duckett Funeral Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons, 656 Boston Post Road (Route 20), Sudbury.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sudbury.
Interment New Town Cemetery.
