Louis Joseph Racine, of Westport, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the age of 83. Born December 18, 1931, in New Bedford, MA to the late Victor and Rachel (Desorcy) Racine, he graduated from Holy Family High School and Bentley School of Accounting and Finance with a degree in accounting. For more than forty years, he was employed by Kay Windsor, Inc. as Director of Distribution and was a key leader in the company’s organizational growth and success.
An avid collector of antiques and glass, especially pairpoint glass, he started the Riverview Antiques Company upon retirement.Louie’s hobbies included book collections on astronomy, nature, art and collectibles. He played cards, enjoyed baseball and football games and traveled to many auctions, flea markets and craft shows.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Madeline Simmons and her family, Heidi, Ashley, and Brooke Pierce of Westport. He was a wonderful father to his daughters, Gwendolyn Hansen and husband Robert of Burlington, CT, Donna Megliola of Granby, CT and Michelle Randall of Fall River, MA. He was a loving grandfather to Kim Griffiths and her husband Jay, Jeffrey Laberge, Laura Thomas and her husband Jim, Alex Hansen, Daniel and Derek Megliola. He leaves a sister, Theresa Hallett of Dartmouth, brothers George Racine and his wife Claire of Acushnet, MA, Norman Racine and his wife, Phyllis, of Avon, CT and sister in- law, Barbara Racine of New Bedford. He was predeceased by his brothers Roland and Donald Racine and sister, Doris Donahue.He also leaves behind six beloved great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather for a Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of his life on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church in Westport, MA.
Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
His family would like to thank the dedicated staff ofthe Tremont Skilled Care Center in Wareham MA for their wonderful compassion and loving care.
