James A. “Jim” Erickson, age 81 of Brockton, passed away Tuesday September 1, 2015 at The Guardian Center in Brockton. Jim was the husband of Paula (Stevens) Erickson. Born and raised in Brockton a son of the late John and Ethel (Costello) Erickson, Jim remained a lifelong resident of the city. A 1952 graduate of Brockton High School, Jim worked for many years in the family run business, The Iola Restaurant in Brockton. He had also worked in sales at Taymor Shoe in Brockton.
Jim was an avid golfer who also enjoyed yard work and gardening. He also loved listening to jazz. Jim will be remembered as a loving and loyal man who was always caring for others. Most importantly, Jim’s true joy in life was his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Paula he is survived by his children Jennifer Erickson and her husband Erik Arthur of Natick, Peter Thorburn of Taunton, Douglas Thorburn and his wife Darcie of Hinesburg, VT; Mark Thorburn and his wife Julie of Snellville, GA and Roland Thorburn of Stoughton. He was the brother of Ann Hurley of Bridgewater, Bernice Dermody of Easton and Jack Erickson and his wife Susan of Brockton. He leaves 8 grandchildren Keira Arthur, Brittany, Trevor, Kylie, Connor, Cameron, Grace and Evan Thorburn and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton on Friday 5-8pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10 am followed by burial in Melrose Cemetery.
