Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY – Helen J. (Wierciszewski) Komer, 102, of South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Friday August 28, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at the Loomis Skilled Nursing Home in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her exceptional caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on July 13, 1913, a beloved daughter of the late Alexander Wierciszewski and Josepha (Kleinowska) Wierciszewski. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School and lived in Holyoke for many years. She later moved to South Hadley and later lived in Newport, Rhode Island for several years before returning to South Hadley in 1950. Helen was born when Woodrow Wilson was the President of the United States and lived to see 17 Presidents during her long life. During her early years, she was a stay at home mom and raised her four sons. She later was employed as a sales clerk at the former Steiger’s Department Store on High Street in Holyoke. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley Falls where she was a member of the former Rosary Altar Society which is now the Ladies Guild. During her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing and was always ready for a good game of cards. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John E. Komer who was Called Home on August 16, 1992. She leaves her four devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. Komer and his wife, Gail, of Jupiter, FL, Gregory A. Komer and his wife, Linda, of South Hadley, John R. “Jack” Komer and his wife, Ann, of Jupiter, FL and Thomas M. Komer of Jupiter, FL; her eight cherished grandchildren, Gregory Komer and his wife, Christine, Kathleen Carney and her husband, William, Kristin Komer and her partner, Curtis Wohlers, Matthew Komer and his wife, Sarah, Alyssa Murphy and her husband, Terrance, Kimberly Mousseron and her husband, Pierre, Kevin Komer and Emily Komer; her eleven cherished great-grandchildren, Daniel Carney and his partner, Sienna, Timothy Carney, Alexander Komer, Kayla Murphy, Aliyah Murphy, Marc Mousseron, Clara Mousseron, Robert Komer, Lititia Johnson, Nicholas Komer and Misty Abney; her great-great granddaughter, Leah Carney; her dear special nephews and nieces, John Wierciszewski, Peter Matuszek, Linda Lee Lisowski and Valerie Benoit; and her many dear cousins and extended members of the Komer and Wierciszewski families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother and sister-in-law, John A. Wierciszewski and his wife, Julie; and her dear sister and brother-in-law, Janet Baran and her husband, Stanley. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, September 1, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her burial will follow the Mass at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, 152 Pittroff Avenue, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. Because of the exceptional care Helen received for the past 13 years at the Loomis House Nursing Home in Holyoke, her family has requested that memorial donations be made for a special outdoor memorial yet to be designed.
