Obituary

LONGMEADOW – Lula Lantzaki, 87, of Longmeadow and a longtime resident of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, August 27, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on April 21, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Nikiforos Lantzakis and Areanthe (Kourialidakis) Lantzakis. She was raised in Springfield, graduated in 1946 from the High School of Commerce and lived in Springfield for many years before moving to Longmeadow in 2008. She was employed as an Executive Secretary in the Engineering Department at the Monsanto Chemical Company in Indian Orchard. Active in her Orthodox faith, she was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield where she was a member of the Saint George Ladies Philoptochos Society. She was a member of the Monsanto 25-Year Club and the Riverbend Club for Retirees. During her leisure time, Lula enjoyed photography and gardening. Most of all, she was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving brother, Mark Michael Layne; her two loving sisters, Kaliopi Lantzaki and Helen Lantzaki who was Called Home on October 25, 2014; and her cherished nephew, Michael N. Layne. She leaves her loving brother and sister-in-law, Edward Lantzakis and his wife, Susan (Piligian) Lantzakis, of Longmeadow; her dear sister-in-law, Evangeline Layne of East Longmeadow; her two cherished nephews, Mark Lantzakis and his wife, Rebecca, of Longmeadow and Evan Layne of East Longmeadow; her cherished niece, Maria Cruise and her husband, James, of Rutland, VT; her two cherished grandnephews, Matthew and Ian Lantzakis, both of Longmeadow; and her three cherished grandnieces, Brittany Leclerc and her husband, Andrew, of Attleboro and Renee and Rachel Cruise, both of Rutland, VT. Visiting hours will be held on Friday morning, September 4, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. There are no visiting hours at the funeral home. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
