David A. Affonseca, Sr., 76, of New Bedford died Wednesday August 19, 2015 suddenly at home.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Augustus J. and Eugenia (Pina) Affonseca, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Affonseca was formerly employed as an installer for New Bedford Floor Covering for many years.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1962. He was a member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association. He had been a coach for the Verdean Vets football, baseball, and basketball teams.
He is survived by his children, Denise M. Affonseca of Fall River and David A. Affonseca, Jr. and his wife Linda of Assonet; four sisters, Jovita Dantas of Westport, Janice Johnson of New Bedford, Maureen Burgo and Arlene Souza, both of Dartmouth; his lifelong friend, Cecil "Bussy" Lopes; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Wilson Affonseca.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 9 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2-5 PM.
