Obituary

SOUTH HADLEY – Kenneth R. “Ken” Landry, 73, of South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, August 20, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in the Old Chicopee Hospital on May 2, 1942, a beloved son of the late Emile E. and Florestine C. (Gosselin) Landry. His parents lived on Dale Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee for a short time before moving to South Hadley around 1945. Ken graduated from South Hadley High School in 1960 and lived in South Hadley for the remainder of his life. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator and was employed for 20 years at Construction Service in Wilbraham. He later worked for 10 years at Palmer Paving and retired in 2004 from Local 98 International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE). Following his retirement, he later worked for Normandeau Trucking Company in West Springfield. Ken loved the outdoors and enjoyed trap shooting, fishing and hunting. He was a member and past president of the Fairview Sportsmen’s Club. He was a great mechanic and was always ready to work on his family and friends’ cars and trucks. Most of all, Ken was a quiet family man who showered his family with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He loved the holidays and the numerous family outings, picnics and parties. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend of over 47 years, Nancy L. (Thorpe) Landry; his loving son, Richard K. Landry and his wife, Lisa, of Granby; his two loving step-sons, Paul J. Jozefczyk of South Hadley and William C. Jozefczyk and his wife, Rosa, of Ludlow; his loving step-daughter, Karen M. Superski of South Hadley; his eight cherished grandchildren, Jena, Emma and Abigail Landry, Belinda and Andrea Jozefczyk, Marie Garcia and her husband, Carlos, Kelly Hammond and her husband, Louis, and Steven Kennedy; his three cherished great-grandaughters who were the “apple of his eye”, Lauryn and Alexis Garcia and Alaina Hammond; his dear special nephew, Daniel Landry and his wife, JoAnn, of Chicopee; his dear brother-in-law, Donald J. Thorpe of South Deerfield; and several other dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Landry, Thorpe and Jozefczyk families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother and sister-in-law, Donald A. Landry and his wife, Rosella; his dear mother-in-law, Lucille J. (Gregoire) Thorpe who was Called Home on March 29, 2015; his dear father-in-law, William H. Thorpe who was Called Home on June 23, 1991; his dear sister-in-law, Eleanor N. Thorpe who was Called Home on July 5, 2015; and his dear nephew, David Landry. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
