Florence G. (Sagar) Wisniewski, 92, of Westport, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 19, 2015. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Wisniewski, Sr.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Fredrick and Emily (Hall) Sagar, she had been a longtime resident of Westport. In 1944, Mrs. Wisniewski joined the United States Naval Reserve, Navy WAVES and served her country in WWII as a Medical Corp Nurse. In 1948, she married her beloved Joseph while continuing her career. A true pioneer of nursing, Mrs. Wisniewski then went on to work in various states and she also cared for patients in their homes as a private duty nurse. She later became the night supervisor for various hospitals and halfway houses in the area. She was a Registered Nurse in 5 states and prior to her retirement, worked as a mental health nurse. She truly loved her profession. She was a member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church, Westport Point and enjoyed going to the beach and taking long Sunday rides. Most of all though, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her son: Paul M. Wisniewski and his wife Patricia of Dartmouth; her daughter: Faith A. Wisniewski of Westport; 3 grandchildren: Lisa Wisniewski, Alycia Oliveira and Kailee Rolston; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Joseph A. Wisniewski, Jr. and sister of the late Sonny Sagar.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a service at the Westport Point United Methodist Church, Westport Point at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
